During RFC 5280 policy processing in public_key:pkix_path_validation/3, the certificate policy tree maintained by pubkey_policy_tree grows without an upper bound. When a certificate chain contains M policies per certificate and K certificates, the tree grows on the order of M^K nodes because pubkey_policy_tree:add_leaves/2 and pubkey_policy_tree:add_leaf_siblings/2 extend the tree per policy per certificate. A modest chain with many policies per certificate is enough to pin BEAM schedulers and exhaust the node's memory, taking down the entire VM. The attacker only needs to be able to present a certificate chain to the victim, which is the normal precondition for a TLS handshake, so exploitation succeeds against any incoming or outgoing TLS connection that validates the peer's chain (the default for SSL/TLS clients and mutual-TLS servers).
This is the same vulnerability class as OpenSSL's X509_verify_cert policy tree DoS.

Cloudflare quiche was discovered to be vulnerable to memory resource exhaustion due to unbounded queuing of post-handshake client migration events.
Impact
quiche supports the connection migration features described in Section 9 of RFC 9000, which allows a single QUIC connection to survive changes in the network path. Although quiche implements the protections described in Section 9.3 of RFC 9000 to limit server state commitment, it was discovered that the collection of PathEvents, intended to be consumed by applications via the path_event_next() function, was not bounded.
Once the QUIC handshake completed, a peer could exploit rapid source address migration in order to cause unbounded queuing of the PathEvent::ReusedSourceConnectionId type. Servers are vulnerable even if active connection migration is disabled.

The Mint.HTTP1.decode_headers/5 and Mint.HTTP1.decode_trailer_headers/4 functions in lib/mint/http1.ex accumulate every parsed response header and chunked-trailer field into a per-request list that persists across incoming TCP segments as request.headers_buffer, and only clear it when the terminating blank line is received. The section has no cap on the number of headers or on total bytes, and the underlying :erlang.decode_packet(:httph_bin, binary, []) parser is invoked with an empty option list so its per-line and per-packet size limits also default to unlimited.
A malicious HTTP server (reachable directly, via an attacker-controlled redirect, via SSRF, or via a man-in-the-middle) can stream complete header lines (or, after a chunked body, complete trailer lines) indefinitely without ever emitting the terminating blank line. The connection state grows without bound until the BEAM node is killed by the operating system's out-of-memory handler, taking down the entire application that uses Mint as an HTTP client.

accepts raw TCP connections on port 9780 with no authentication. The
readLength method reads an attacker-controlled 32-bit integer from the
socket and readData passes it directly to new byte[length] with no
upper-bound check. An unauthenticated attacker can cause the JVM to attempt
an allocation of up to 2,147,483,647 bytes per connection, exhausting heap
memory and crashing or severely degrading the DataNode process.

Phoenix transports do not limit the number of channels that a single transport process may join. Every phx_join message a client sends over one connection starts a persistent channel process, and the socket process accepts an unbounded number of them. A single unauthenticated client can therefore open one WebSocket or LongPoll connection and stream a large number of phx_join messages, spawning hundreds of thousands of channel processes over that one connection and eventually reaching the BEAM maximum process limit. Once the process table is exhausted the virtual machine can no longer start new processes, denying service to legitimate traffic across the whole node. Because the amplification happens inside a single connection, network-layer connection caps and rate limiting do not mitigate it.
The fix adds a :max_channels_per_transport option (default 100) that bounds the number of channels a single transport process can join, forcing abusive clients to open many connections instead, where external load balancers and reverse proxies can throttle them.

When Mint decodes a chunked HTTP response body, it accumulates each partial fragment of the current chunk in the connection's data_buffer (an unbounded iolist) via add_body_to_buffer/2 and does not emit the data to the caller until the full declared chunk length has been received. The chunk size is taken directly from the server and parsed with no upper bound, so a malicious or compromised server can announce one enormous chunk (for example a size line of 7FFFFFFF, about 2 GiB) and then send the body bytes slowly without ever completing the chunk. The client buffers every received byte while it waits for a completion that never arrives, and because no data responses are produced until the chunk finishes, a caller that otherwise streams large content-length bodies safely gains no protection. An unauthenticated remote server (reachable whenever a client follows redirects, fetches user-supplied URLs, or processes webhooks) can drive the client's memory arbitrarily high and trigger an out-of-memory condition.

The peer-wire framing in _process_messages trusts the 4-byte length prefix sent by a connected peer with no upper bound, while receive_data appends every inbound byte to the input buffer. A peer announces a length prefix of up to about 4 GiB and then streams bytes; the decoder waits until the buffer holds the full message before processing it, so the buffer grows without limit.
Peer connections are unauthenticated, so any peer in the swarm exhausts the downloading process's memory. The largest legitimate message is a 16 KiB piece block, so any announced length far above that is anomalous. MDEx.parse_document/2 accepts a {:json, json} source. In lib/mdex.ex, the private json_to_node/1 function passes the attacker-controlled node_type value to Module.concat/1, which calls String.to_atom/1 and interns a brand-new atom for every distinct value. Atoms are never garbage collected on the BEAM, so a crafted JSON document carrying a unique node_type at each (deeply nested) node mints one permanent atom per node.
A single document can intern hundreds of thousands of atoms, and a large enough document exhausts the default atom table (around 1,048,576 atoms) and aborts the entire Erlang VM, taking down every process on the node. Any application that passes untrusted input to the {:json, ...} source of MDEx.parse_document is exposed to an unauthenticated denial-of-service.
