Google dismantles XCPE, the botnet of 1.3 million Android TV boxes infected by their own maker
On November 2, 2026, Google and partners announce the dismantling of the XCPE botnet, which enrolled more than 1.3 million certified Android TV boxes through a backdoor preloaded by manufacturer Videostrong. Severing its command servers would cut criminal affiliates off from ten million more devices.
